Wright Art Studio presents:
Course Description: Building on the strength of the Beginning Class (or previous experiences), students will receive assignments to take their creativity further. Extremes of composition and lighting will be explored. Students will be challenged to push deeper into their own stylistic territory with challenging assignments. As always, an eye on awareness and readiness for action with the camera will be stressed. This class will gnaw and chew a bit and make you get in touch with the real creative power of the camera. It is photography as a plastic art. Moldable and sculptural. COURSE SYLLABUS WEEK 1: Finding the Great in the Benign (or, Making the Boring Interesting) WEEK 2: Emotion & Commentary via Juxtapositions (or, The Ghost of Eliot Erwitt) WEEK 3: Self-Portraiture (or, Glimpse the Soul of the Artist) WEEK 4: Extremes of Composition (or, Pushing your Framing Off The Cliff) WEEK 5: Extremes of Natural or Artificial Light (or, Photographer as Sculptor) WEEK 6: Creative Flash (or, Onboard Frills and Fills) WEEK 7: Imitating The Greats (or, In the Manner of a Master) WEEK 8: Final Project (or, A Complete Series and Sequencing) What this class is NOT: • a forum for finding “the best” camera to buy • a list of “tricks of the trade” • a forum to learn what every button of your camera does (I couldn’t tell you anyway) • a Photoshop Class How this online class works: • Lessons and related assignments are issued Friday. An email sent to you will include a secret website link to the online lesson. In the lessons, I will introduce a concept like vantage point and explain/illustrate it with imagery from my own photography, examples from other photographers, and even classic paintings. • Students will shoot all week and edit down to 3 photographs for review. Shoot, shoot, shoot. There are no film costs and every frame is a chance to learn. • I will be available via email all week to answer questions. • Students will email their photos to me by Thursday PM. I will post them with comments Friday. Don’t be intimidatedthe positives and directions for improvement will be the focus. All students can view each other’s work online (critical for everyone to learn from other’s work). Pre-requisites: • a digital camera (or film camera with scanner) • a way to upload pictures to your computer. • enough basic editing knowledge to resize your photos and send them via email (I can get you up to speed if you are just starting.) • internet access to view your pictures/critiques online Cost: If you wish to enroll, please send an email to rick@wrightartstudio.com as soon as possible, followed with a check for $250 to reserve your space.
