The Grounds for Sculpture Series began and ended with the inspiration from Edward Steichen’s nighttime photograph of Rodin’s Balzac. This image triggered a desire to produce my own sculpture photography at the Grounds for Sculpture in Trenton, NJ. I latched onto the idea of describing the relationship between the sculptures and their unique surroundings. I have recorded something of this dynamic interaction by focusing on a particular aspect of each sculpture and amplifying it.

After months of experimentation with different papers, I finally used a special heavyweight watercolor paper that pushed the imagery even further toward abstraction. And with that push, my imagery reflected back to the abstractions present in Steichen’s original photogravures.
